Huntsman Experience

This year has been my first at Utah State, so I haven't had much interaction with the Huntsman School of Business, especially considering that I just barely decided what I wanted my major to be. However, this semester I have had one class in particular associated with the Huntsman School of Business that has been especially enjoyable. This class is my Econ 1500 class.

My teacher, Randy Simmons, is a great man. I mostly enjoy his class because he makes comparisons between economics and grapes--in other words, he makes it applicable to real life. Randy and I also share many of the same views, so when he goes off on random tangents about how he thinks the government should be run, I listen attentively because I agree. This class is actually what caused me to choose economics as my major. Because I find the material incredibly interesting, I decided to make it my major.

Without having taken this class, I wouldn't have decided on a path so early in my college career and might still be floundering around perhaps even a few years from now. Because of this experience and others, I have had a very positive interaction with the Huntsman School of Business.

Personal advantages of a professional blog

Using a professional blog is beneficial not only for businesses, but for individuals as well. If someone keeps a professional blog, a potential employer has the opportunity to get to know the individual on a more personal basis, something that many employers may find useful.

Keeping a professional blog can be difficult at times, because there is such a need to find a balance between professionalism and informality. Often, a way to help keep things professional is by talking about certain subjects. Things such as record keeping and new technological advances will impress your audience and possibly potential employers.

Through keeping a professional blog, individuals are able to direct potential employers to a website that shows them in a professional light while still keeping a focus on personality. In this way, an employer is able to focus on the best attributes of the applicant.

Professionalism through current technology

When most people think of websites such as Facebook or Twitter, professionalism doesn't usually come to mind. However, social networking websites are also great for business networking.

Because social networking sites reach such a wide range of people, businesses are able to increase their customer base. By using these sites, businesses can advertise, give coupons, and give personalized customer service. In this way, a corporation increases the likelihood that customers will be satisfied with their products or services. And if the customers are not satisfied, they have a fast and simple way to provide feedback.

Because customers are able to receive information so quickly, there is a greater chance that they will continue their patronage. In this way, using current technology is very beneficial in increasing a customer-business relationship.

What can professional blogs do for businesses and organizations?

Business blogs are a great way to build potential customers, get the company's name out there, and share business knowledge--all in a low cost, easily accessible manner. Using a blog allows a company to put their name into cyberspace in a user-friendly way. With a normal website, website designers must be hired to code everything. With a blog, you have the ability to write down your thoughts or answer questions with the click of a few buttons.

Blogging from a business standpoint has become one of the largest mediums to discuss products and services. If a company hopes to get the upper hand on their competition, a blog might just be the thing they need!
